The Heritage Guesthouse - A Century of Coastal Hospitality in South West Rocks.
Steeped in over a century of coastal history, the Heritage Guesthouse in South West Rocks has long been a landmark of the region’s seaside charm.
Originally built in 1887 as the Royal Jubilee House, the property began as one of the North Coast’s most prominent accommodation houses, welcoming travellers arriving by steamer and offering a place of rest along the rugged coastline.
Over the decades, the building evolved — changing names, ownership, and purpose — while remaining a constant presence within the heart of the town. By the 1920s, it became known as the Pacific Guest House, and in 1925 a billiard room was added, a space that would later form part of what is now the café.
Today, the Heritage Guesthouse stands as a rare and treasured example of historic seaside accommodation, recognised for its cultural significance and enduring character.
At Heritage Beachside Cafe, we are proud to be part of this story — continuing a legacy of hospitality, connection, and coastal living that has been enjoyed by generations.
Our Story
Perched by the ocean and shaped by time, the Heritage Guesthouse is more than just a building — it is a living piece of South West Rocks’ history.
Since the late 1800s, this iconic coastal landmark has welcomed travellers drawn to the beauty of the sea. In an era when visitors arrived by steamer, the guesthouse offered rest, warmth, and connection — a place where stories were shared, friendships were formed, and the rhythm of coastal life began to unfold.
Through generations, the building has evolved, yet its spirit has remained unchanged. Weathered by salt air and softened by time, its walls hold the quiet echoes of those who have passed through — each leaving behind a small part of its story.
Today, Heritage Beachside Cafe continues this legacy in a new way. While the offering has evolved, the essence remains the same: a place to pause, to connect, and to experience the simple beauty of life by the sea.
Here, history meets the present — where every coffee, every conversation, and every moment enjoyed is part of a story that has been unfolding for over a century.
